Thanks for wonderful words of uplift. Upon finishing I immediately thought of Benjamin E. Mays: “It must be borne in mind that the tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy of life lies in having no goal to reach.”

My parents never really gave me the talk. My Mom just obliquely told me to keep "it" in my pocket. That was it. However my school had sex ed classes and even though I snickered like the village idiot I retained a lot of knowledge, like to vary your stroke - kidding. I remember when Eric Holder made his when it comes to discussing race in America we are a "nation of cowards", I think they is more true of talking frankly about sex. Kudos to you and your family for having the first of hopefully many open discussions of how to give pleasure to ones partner and how to (or not to) make a baby.

Who says black kids don't play ball. Nice work, love the "keep the eye on the ball" pic. This makes me think back to my own days on the diamond, with our Coach - Coach Smith, no relation - barking "throw rope! throw rope!" at us. I struck out everytime. Didn't wanna wear my glasses to the plate.

Dude, I feel you on this. People have been saying for years that kids just don't play outside nearly as much as they used to. When me and my son go out and toss the football people seemed stunned when they walk by. or see my son outside with his camera or digging in the dirt with his gloves and kid sized wheelbarrow. I took my car to the repair yesterday and while I was pissed to have to pay for a diagnostic that turned up nothing, I stood there looking at a calendar and one of the aboriginal quotes struck me - we do not inherit this earth from our parents, rather borrow it from our children. Time to go out, take better care of our world.

Punditry is a lot like predicting the weather. Too often wrong, but no one seems to mind it if you are entertaining enough.

This seems like the case with our man Jelani. However, I just don't need to be entertained that easily.

When children put massive amounts of time into ANYTHING besides studying, their performance in school is weaker than those who study. Its not rocket science. The problem isn't Facebook, it's distraction. :D, Similar articles were published about television, video games etc. So I hope that parents focus on teaching their children to balance work and recreation in a healthy way. I'm glad you took the time to read the article. I wouldn't (and didn't), but it makes for a great topic of discussion. :D.

Great article and great description on your journey to find Christ. However, you left out what I think is an important detail about your journey, which I am curious about your thoughts on. I remember distinctley you attending Johnson Chapel for a while and being SAVED. I just remember how "COURAGEOUS" I thought you were for being able to walk down the aisle and proclaim that you needed to be saved. Why courageous? For years I was terrified to walk down the aisle because people would be watching me, knowing I was a sinner etc. It wasn't until I was about 27 years old that I had the courage to openly acknowledge that I needed God in my life. I have tried to live right, and I falter, but you are right when you say our families planted seeds and we came on home. I like your church's message, and I believe God guides us to the denominations of faith that he believes will help us grow and truly embrace his message. Thanks for sharing. I am not quite on FACEBOOK yet, I thought I signed up, but I can't log on..lol.
